My interests lie at the intersection of political and international theory and mainland Southeast Asia. I teach courses in political philosophy, international political economy, security studies, and alternative (i.e. post-positivist) approaches to IR on the international BA programme in International Relations at Thammasat University, and I have published in leading academic journals, including the European Journal of International Relations, Review of International Studies, and International Theory. I specialise in emancipatory approaches to the international that draw on Kant, Hegel, and Marx.
I also have extensive experience working with civil society and international organisations across Southeast Asia. This includes the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation (Vietnam & regional), Focus on the Global South (regional), the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma), Save the Children (Thailand), the International Labour Organisation (Myanmar), World Vision (Thailand), The Asia Foundation (Thailand), and the Mekong Institute (regional & China).
Prior to joining the Faculty of Political Science full-time in 2017, I co-wrote an undergraduate BA curriculum in Global Studies for Thammasat University, taught social science to displaced students from Myanmar for Open Universities Australia (2012-2016), and co-ordinated and taught several field-based study abroad programs in Thailand and Myanmar for the University of California and the University of Western Washington. I also supervised Masters research students and taught on the MPH Global Health and BA Global Studies programs at Thammasat University between 2013-2017.
