The Professor Direk Jayanama Library plays a vital role in the university library system. Located on the fifth floor of Thammasat University’s Faculty of Political Science on Tha Prachan campus, it serves as a specialized provider of information resources mainly about political science. Its mission is to support learning, teaching, research, and knowledge transmission for Thammasat students, instructors, and staff as well as the general public.
The library houses over 32,000 resources, including books, magazines, journals, dissertations, CD-ROMs, and videos. Visitors may access a computer zone, a service inquiry counter, study rooms, and a rare book area displaying the personal libraries of Professor Direk Jayanama and Air Chief Marshal Siddhi Savetsila. This section also features directories and commemorative books generously donated by alumni.
Starting in 1961, instructors and students of the Faculty of Political Science managed a reading room which gradually developed into a full-sized library. In 1970, it was moved to its present location after a new faculty building had been completed. In 1976, the library was integrated into the Thammasat University Library central structure; nine years later, it was officially renamed the Professor Direk Jayanama Library in tribute to the first dean of the Faculty of Political Science. In December 2010, the library benefited from a significant renovation funded by the Government Lottery Office.
