Since 1951, the Faculty of Political Science at Thammasat University has been committed to fulfilling its role as an educational institution, advancing steadily toward its eighth decade. Over the years, I believe that the Faculty has proven itself to Thai society as a leading institution in political science, producing knowledge and high-quality personnel who continue to serve the public across various professions.
However, despite our proud history, the Faculty now faces numerous changes and challenges. These affect almost every aspect of the Faculty, ranging from teaching and curriculum management, staff, research, international collaboration, administration, student activities, to facilities. I must honestly say that there are significant challenges ahead amidst the dynamics of the modern world, which compel all educational institutions to adapt in order to maintain academic excellence and societal impact.
Nevertheless, despite the uncertainties and obstacles, I firmly believe that the Faculty of Political Science at Thammasat University is both a resilient “organisation” and a united “community.” These strengths will not only help the Faculty survive but also allow it to thrive. From the very first day I had the honour of serving as the Dean, I have witnessed the genuine dedication of all personnel – faculty and staff alike – who are committed to improving the Faculty. Alumni and current students have also actively supported the Faculty by staying engaged and offering assistance. Therefore, looking ahead 10 or 20 years, I am never afraid that this Faculty will not continue or will decline.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the Faculty’s founding. To celebrate this special occasion, the Faculty organises various activities continuously, providing opportunities for “Singhadangs” or our alumni to reconnect with the Faculty in ways that suit them. These events are expected to strengthen and energise the “Singhadang” community. Furthermore, the 75th anniversary serves as a milestone for reflecting on the future direction of the Faculty. There are many tasks ahead, especially the revamping of all curricula, improving teaching methods, and promoting internationalisation. Thus, this anniversary is not just a celebration, but also a moment to refocus our efforts in fulfilling the vision of the Faculty: “To become a centre for the study, dissemination, and development of knowledge in the field of political science in Southeast Asia, with the aim of serving the public interest.”
